Literally, there isn’t any ‘movie prison’ in Hollywood; however, it’s actually a fact – just find it out from Mel Gibson. There have been many instances in his life that defamed him. If you take a walk through his past, you will know more. In spite of all that, he is still in Hollywood. Find out why!
A decade back, the famous actor and director hit the rock bottom of his public fame when he was taken in custody for driving under influence in California. This is just one of the incidences that caused him a disgrace.
Gibson’s ‘The Passion of the Christ’ movie that was released back in 2004 was based on Jesus Christ’s last twelve hours of life. When Gibson was questioned whether it would distress the Jewish people, he said – “It can. It is not intended. I think it’s meant to just tell the truth … Everyone who violates must look at their own part or look at their own duty.”
In the year 2010, Oksana Grigorieva, Gibson’s ex-girlfriend, with whom he has a child, secretly made a conversation between them. Gibson tells her, “You look like a competition in the heat. And if you are raped by a package of n **** s, it will be your fault. OK? Because you provoked it. You are provocatively dressed all the time with your fake breasts that you feel you have to show off. I do not like it. I don’t want that woman. I do not want you. I do not trust you. I do not love you.” While this was happening, he was under investigation for domestic violence charges.
In the year 1991, Gibson had ridiculed gay men in an interview with El Pais. When he was asked to apologize by GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), he stated – “I apologize when hell freezes over. They can disappear.” In 1995, he told Playboy that he didn’t think men and women were alike.
In 2010, it seemed like his career had come to an end after Grigorieva’s call leaked. However, that was not the case.
Robert Downey Jr. tried to get Marvel to hire Gibson to direct “Iron Man 3.” “I will continue to say that I do not think anyone should be held responsible in any way for something they say while intoxicated. That’s not who they are. I know this because I have said horrible things to people and made them feel good. And it wasn’t who I was, I was just drunk. Mel is a good guy and I understand that his new directing project is actually quite interesting. So whatever. If you say something sober, that’s one thing. If you are intoxicated, you will knowingly be belligerent just to piss people off. “Yes, sure, let’s get rid of abuse because he was just drunk!
In 2016, Gibson directed “Hacksaw Ridge,” which received six Oscar nominations (including one for Gibson). The same year he did an interview with Variety, where Gibson said he had to apologize for his behavior. “But others address it, which kind of I find annoying because I don’t understand why after ten years it is some kind of problem. Certainly if I was really what they say I was, some kind of hater, there would be evidence of action somewhere. It never has been. ”
That leaves us in the midst of a so-called “interrupted culture” and have seen movements like #MeToo bring out prominent men in Hollywood. Mel Gibson is still working in a few roles, making movies and getting Oscar nominations for these films.
According to the latest updates, Gibson would be launching two new projects: “Rothchild” apparently based on the rich Jewish banking family and “Fat Man”, a dark Christmas movie.
